A Strange Resemblance
This is a photo of Major Nidal Malik Hasan, allegedly the shooter who killed 12 and wounded 31 others in the tragic shooting at Fort Hood yesterday.
This is Private Lawrence, AKA "Gomer Pyle," a character in the 1987 movie "Full Metal Jacket" who consistently goofs off, messes up, and (don't worry, no spoilers) fails to make it through boot camp .
Am I the only one who notices a strange resemblance between them?

I thought about that, even before they showed his picture.
haha...nope. Never thought of that. Of course the Gomer Pyle I knew was back in the day-- Andy Griffith show when it was still in black and white?
I never saw Full Metal Jacket. Hummm. Did I miss anything?
@thereluctantsinger - It depends. If you like military/war movies, it's one of the better ones. It has a lot more drama and less battle-field action than the typical "war movie," too, so that's a different twist. I liked it, though I will caution that it does have some particularly graphic scenes. I am not sure what the rating is but I wouldn't take a child or young teen to see it for sure (an older, mature teen with their parent, maybe). Here's a brief intro to it (could contain spoilers) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Metal_Jacket
I don't see the physical resemblance, but I did immediately think of Full Metal Jacket when I first heard of the shooting. I've been meaning to re-watch that movie for quite some time now, actually.
Now that you say it... yes he does. Similar situation, too.
