Ice Storm
So, Houston got slammed by an ice storm last week. It was supposed to dump 2 - 6 inches of snow, which didn't happen, but we did get the ice. BOY did we get the ice.
For the record, I'm glad we didn't get the snow. Half a foot of snow would gridlock this city in ways I don't want to think about. As it is, there were over 800 traffic accidents in a 36 hour period that were directly related to the ice.

Was your city affected by the ice storm that hit the nation last week?

How do you have an "ice storm".. Where does the water come from? I mean, if it's from rain, why wouldnt it then just snow?
We got some ice but nothing like you.
I can take the snow, but ice scares me.
I know ice and snow - the coldest I ever was was when many years ago I was standing on the bow of a ship washing down the incoming anchor chain and had salt water blowing back and freezing on me.
Hee Hee, A couple of weeks ago, here in Florida, we were the only state in the nation without some snow somewhere.@MomGoneMadd - Ice is caused when it's warmer above and it rains, but it's cold enough to freeze when it hits the surface, just like fog being caused when it's very cold, and the ground is warm.
I hate ice storms, because it usually knocks out power. I live in Michigan, so getting 10 inches of snow in a few hours is nothing, really. We take the 4X4s and snowmobiles to get groceries. In SW Michigan, we haven't had a real blizzard since 1978, and before that in 1967. We're long overdue, but the one we just had only lasted a day. If it went for 2 or 3, it would be one for the books.
We got blown away with the ice!!
Next week on the Left Coast winter returns.
We had ice on the roads with cars slipping all over the place.
UPDATE: The power (speak of the devil) was out from sunday night at 10 pm until thurs at 5:30 am
I stayed inside, it did rain and bluster but no ice store over here
